    Hi,

I know this is a stretch, but I have to ask. You don't happen to have access to the old D'bridge registrations from the 90's do you? I'd love to find out what my old D'Bridge registration number was. I also forgot how much it cost, but I remember it was really expensive to me back then. It would be around 1990-1993. The Halls of Valhalla. Original Fidonet number 1:207/705.

Surprisingly, I've been asked this over the years from a few Sysops but unfortunately that database was never handed over to me by the original author. I was handed everything but the key-base. But D'Bridge did cost around $100 USD for a single-node license. Commercial usage I believe cost more... much more.

According to the original author, it was sold and deployed to a number of hospitals in some other countries, many stores bought it for supply-chain related file distribution. CNN apparently did a cover story about how D'Bridge, Frontdoor and TBBS/Flame formed the basis of Saudinet in the Gulf
War to allow soldiers to exchange Netmail with families back home.

About 10 years ago I emailed CNN about archive tapes from that time period but nothing came from that. I'd love to find someone from a VHS-hoarding crowd
type that has it. When I saw the little old lady on A&E Hoarders that had boxes and boxes of VHS tapes recorded from cable I knew thats likely the direction to take.

I paid $120 for mine in 1991. That was some serious money for me too. Have you asked the author about registrations?

Oh well. It would have been fun to get that KEY file again, but of course not critical.

According to the inflation calculator, $100 in 1990's dollars is $199 in today's dollars. I remember it was a big amount for me back then. I can't even remember how I paid. I must have mailed in a check? I don't think you could use a credit card online back then. I think I might have even called someone and talked to a lady on the phone. I can't even remember. I do remember the KEY came attached to a netmail and installed itself.

D'Bridge was so great. I know back then with Renegade it was either Frontdoor or D'Bridge. And Frontdoor was a crazy collection of programs you had to figure out how to make them work together. But D'Bridge... just worked. It was magic.

I can still hear the noise my old hard drive made when a NODEDIFF was processed. It took actual minutes to process. I remember my Hub got pissed when I asked for the Renegade fidonet echo because it was one of the more active on the network and he didn't want the traffic. But he did it anyways. Tossing messages at 2am was good times.

I seem to remember there was a secondary "othernet" called Echonet? I think I eventually signed on to that, and another one for "hacking" topics. Can't remember the name of that one.

It's cool you're keeping D'Bridge alive. I'd love to see some screenshots. Couldn't find anyone online.

Yeah, $120 sounds about right. I haven't tried contacting the author. I figure they've long dropped any sort of support. :-)

I wish I still have had my BBS files. I bet I zipped them up and put them on some floppies and then tossed them all out in a move at some point. Reading those old message bases would be very entertaining.
